In situations when a store loses its network connection, the prism screen will still pop-up on your tills and let you successfully complete the transaction.
When there is no network on the till we queue the receipts within the queue folder of the prism installation directory. By default, the max queue size is 10,000 transactions (configurable). The visual process of capturing customer data and issuing digital receipts, remains unchanged, meaning the cashier will still see the data capture screen as normal. The EPOS solution or IT setup will inform the cashier that the till is offline. Alternatively, the prism tray icon may indicate persistent network failures.
Timestamps are kept of the original transaction. Periodically, prism takes the oldest file from the request queue which is pushed to the back of the queue if it fails again. The rate of retries is sped up if requests are successful and slowed down if unsuccessful; the minimum period between dequeues is 4 seconds and the maximum is 600 seconds (10 minutes).
We don't have ad hoc reports available but till alerts assist in finding out whether a till is offline and we can retrospectively run manual reports if needed (e.g. to check whether receipts of a particular date have been posted later than the transaction date).
