If you look in the device manager and the Serial Ports have warning signs, it could be the driver filter installed by HHD (SPMC)
Check the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{df799e12-3c56-421b-b298-b6d3642bc878}
Will have the UpperFilter. Delete it.
Remove and re-add the com0com ports

If COM ports can't be readded they might need to be removed from here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\COM Name Arbiter (Set the Data to all 0's) Or Check Device manager for view where ports not in use visible.
